FAQ Backups & Recovery

Does my host back up my site for me?

Often, in some form — but the specifics vary by plan and are worth confirming rather than assuming, and a copy of your own is still worth keeping.

Many hosting plans include some form of automatic backup as a convenience, but exactly what is covered, how often it runs, and how long it is kept depends on the specific plan and can change over time. Rather than assume, check the current terms for your own plan in the client area, or ask support directly what is included on your account today.

Why this is not a simple yes or no

Backup provision across the hosting industry is not standardised. Some plans include frequent automated snapshots as standard, some offer it as an add-on, and the scope — files only, database only, or both — differs between providers and sometimes between tiers of the same provider. None of that is fixed forever, either: what a plan includes today is what its current terms say, not what an older article or a support conversation from last year implied. That is exactly why this page will not quote you a specific frequency, retention window, or restore guarantee — the accurate answer is specific to your plan and to right now, not to hosting in general.

What a host-run backup is actually for

Treat any backup your host takes as a safety net, not a service level agreement, unless your plan's terms explicitly say otherwise. It exists to help in a genuine disaster, and support can often use it to help you recover. What it is not designed to be is your only copy of a site that matters to you — because it typically lives on infrastructure connected to your own account, and a backup that shares your account's fate is not fully independent of the thing it is meant to protect.

Keep your own copy regardless of the answer

Whatever your plan includes, download or sync a copy of your site somewhere you control — your own computer or a cloud storage account you manage. That copy is the one you know exists, know the age of, and know you can reach even if something goes wrong with the hosting account itself. The 3-2-1 backup rule covers why one copy, however good, is never quite enough on its own.

How to get a straight answer for your account

The client area is the source of truth for what your specific plan currently includes. If it is not clear from there, contact our support team and ask directly — what backups run on your plan, how often, and what they cover. That is a far more reliable answer than anything general written here, precisely because it reflects your account rather than an average across every plan we offer.
